male guardian dogs
how it works...
Whether you are bringing in a pup or older pup, you will treat them as your family member, we ask that you keep up with basic training, safe socialization, grooming excercises, crate training etc. This is extremely important as his traits will be passed on to his pups. For breedings, grooming, pictures, or boarding it is important that he has good manners and feels safe here at our house. We also ask that at any time if you have any concerns about the dog you will notify us immediately. We will answer any questions you have. We would also love getting any updates on the dog!
We will see the guardian dog every 4-8 weeks for grooming. This ensures that the dog knows us, how well the dog is being taken care of, etc.
We might ask for him to stay later for pictures or we will occasionally ask to bring him over for pictures, testing, etc.We may also start him on his stud supplements (our expense) at 8 months old. We ask that you make sure you are giving them to him and update us when he is running low.
Starting around 8 months old we will begin prelims and a semen evaluation. We take them up north in provo so depending on what time they are at, how many dog's we are testing, the dog might stay with us overnight as we might get back later at night.
At 24 months old we will go up test again for official OFA'S.
There is no set time when we will need him for a breeding. It all depends on when our girls go into heat or when another program will use him. The breeding window is very small, we will try to give you as much notice as possible but sometimes it might be last minute. At times we may need him for multiple days in a row, we might need to keep him at our house for those days.
We are so thankful for our guardian homes! You will get paid $150 per stud service as a thank you! (a stud service is multiple breedings with the same female.)
If you are unable to bring him for a stud service, we will come pick him up from your house. You will not be compensated for that stud service if we pick him up.
We have FULL breeding rights to the dog. You are never allowed to breed him. If caught there will be fines as well as the dog coming back to our house. A stud will do anything to get to a female that's in heat. It's your responsibility to watch the dog closely. if any accidental breeding happens, you may be charged with fines.
The stud will be apart of our program for up to 6 years. We can decide that he can retire from our program at any time due to health testing, change of plans with our program, etc. We will neuter him at our cost.
You are not allowed to neuter the dog at any time.
