FEmale guardian dogs
how it works...
Whether you are bringing in a pup or older pup, you will treat them as your family member, we ask that you keep up with basic training, safe socialization, grooming excercises, crate training etc. This is extremely important as her traits will be passed on to her pups. For breedings, grooming, pictures, or boarding it is important that she has good manners and feels safe here at our house. We also ask that at any time if you have any concerns about the dog you will notify us immediately. We will answer any questions you have. We would also love getting any updates on the dog!
We will see the guardian dog every 4-8 weeks for grooming. This ensures that the dog knows us, how well the dog is being taken care of, etc.
We might ask for her to stay later for pictures or we will occasionally ask to bring her over for pictures, testing, etc. We may also start her on breeding supplements (our expense) around 12 months old. We ask that you make sure you are giving them to her and update us when she is running low.
Starting around 24 months old we will begin OFAS. We take them up north in provo so depending on what time they are at, how many dog's we are testing, the dog might stay with us overnight as we might get back later at night.
This might take multiple trips to complete health testing.
Around 6-12 months old she will go into heat. It is very important to pay attention. Notify us the day you notice she starts. They can hide it very well especially small dogs. They may become more attached to you, can be more moody, and go potty more often. Their vulva will become very big as well. They can be in heat for several weeks. She will usually be bred around her 2nd- 3rd heat. It's important you keep her away from any unaltered males. Do not leave her unattended. Keep her vulva clean and change her diapers frequently. When we breed her we will test her progestrone numbers frequently. We may also have her stay at our house for breeding. The breeding window is very small. Females go into heat every 4-8 months. It's different for every female.
Around 35 days after being bred we may do an ultrasound on her to confirm pregnancy or we may have you update us for any visible signs. Usually around 45 days you can notice they are pregnant but it's different for every girl.
About a week before she's due she will come stay at our house. She will then raise and whelp the pups. You are welcome to come visit her and the pups at appropriate times. she will stay with us for about 8 weeks then she will be returned back to the guardian home.
She will have up to 5 litters. (a litter counts as 2 or more pups.) Every female is different and she will be retired depending on her health or how she raises her pups. She will be bred back to back until she's spayed.
We are so thankful for our guardian homes! You will get compensated $150 per puppy that's sold as a thank you!
We have FULL breeding rights to the dog. You are never allowed to breed her. If caught there will be fines as well as the dog coming back to our house. A stud will do anything to get to a female that's in heat. It's your responsibility to watch the dog closely. if any accidental breeding happens, you may be charged with fines.
We can decide that she can retire from our program at any time due to health testing, change of plans with our program, etc. We will spay her at our cost.
You are not allowed to spay the dog at any time.
